This CD contains the world-premiere recording of Conrad Susa's "Carols and Lullabies: Christmas in the Southwest". It was meant to be a sort of companion to Britten's "Ceremony of Carols". The piece was commissioned by this group then known as the Plymouth Music Series. It ties together Christmas songs from across the Spanish speaking world is a most charming manner. The rest of the CD contains carols from the well known ("O Little Town of Bethlehem" with a really nice, different arrangement) to the not as well known (the beautiful "Sing Hallelu!" by Stephen Paulus). Vocalessence is an excellent choral ensemble singing some really interesting material. The recording could become one of your favorite Christmas CDs. (62:08 1994,2004)
