Barabara Furtuna: In Santa Pace

(Poliphonies Corses)
Beautiful Corsican folk and classical four-part male harmony, with light instrumental accompaniment on several tracks (acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, violin and accordion). Includes a booklet with lyrics to all the songs.

Song List:
Anghjulina
O Salutaris Hostia
Maria le sette spade
Lux Aeterna
Veni O Bella
S'he discitatu
Suda Sangue
Kyrie Eleisoon
Lamentu chi ti
Plavi putevi mora
Tota pulchra es Maria
L'innamurati
L'oru

From the liner notes:
Contemporary-style chant - Lux Aeterna, O Salutaris Hosti or Kyrie Eleison - confronts traditional songs Suda Sangue and Tota Pulchra Es Maria, and sometimes they even get mixed in one chant like Maria Le Sette Spade, ancient material used in a new more cotemporary composition, as if tradition refused to get confined within one space-time dimension. Similarly, L'Oru finds the same tragic echo as in the XXth century love songs Veni O Bella and Lamentu chi ti cerca that became cultural refinements for previous generations.
Only L'Innamurati tends to reach the more serene ideal. The Dalmation Plavi putevi mora brings different harmony to complete the album. Time - the lost Past of Anghjulina or the time we'd like to master in S'he discitatu - seems to be the only Master of the repertoire in which Past, Present and Future become one and the same.

"I first heard Barbara Furtuna last week, singing in a church in Tasmania. It totally took my breath away and I immediately bought this CD. Now I listen to it last thing every night and am absolutely ADDICTED to it. There's some religious music, some about the sea and beautiful women. All of it transports you to another world. I came to this website to see if they have any other CD's - it's SO GOOD!!! "
