Cantabile's new Christmas album, as always, has a little bit of everything; folk carols from Austria & Ireland, mediaeval carols from Britain & Spain, English & Welsh artsong, pop songs from the 40s, 50s & 70s, a silly rendition with Sound FX [!] of The Twelve Days of Christmas, and Carol - which lasts just a few minutes, but manages to tell the Christmas story using just 28 of Cantabile's favourite carols. This last number was runner-up in the category 'best Christmas track' in the 2004 CARA awards. Also listeners can choose their language for a Compagnons de la Chanson song - either English [The Jimmy Brown Song] or the original French [Les Trois Cloches].Not forgetting Tom Lehrer's sardonic take on Christmas, and a song about raucous peasant Carol Singers. From the sublime to the ridiculous…… Christmas with Cantabile!
