This CD is a live recording of a concert given in 1999 at St. James Church, with Paul Ayres directing the Queldryk Chamber Choir. The performance includes Paul Ayres music for fourth century Russian Orthodox text ("Strengthen), and for 19th and 20th century poetry ("To Music" - Hopkins, "Treasure" - Struthers) to arrangements of traditional spirituals ("Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?") and ballads ("Scarborough Fair"). Two of Ayres's own compositions are included (the "Motivations") and some jazzy arrangements, including one for the Gershwins' "Slap that Bass."
