This CD reads like a promotional piece for Hal Leonard Publishing, which distributes all but four of the 21 Kirby Shaw arrangements included here (see links in the song list below to order sheet music). Shaw's prolific talents are represented on this disc by his own group, Encore!, including Shaw himself, Markita Shaw (his wife), Diana Ylvisaker, Joelle Graves and Roger Graves. The sound is studio-singer clean, if sometimes a bit sterile. The arrangements are pleasant and sometimes a little off-beat (check out the jazzy, syncopated "Carol of the Bells" and doo-wop styled "Mary Had a Baby"). Standouts include a sweet "Silver Bells," rousing "E natus Est Emmanuel," featuring some vocal percussion, and a sophisticated take on "White Christmas." (50:33 2001)
