This eagerly awaited sophomore album is a stunning accomplishment! The five very talented singers, writers and arrangers in m-pact have been refining their sound since they won the Harmony Sweeps in '96 (and there's a couple of new faces, too). The production is exceptionally clean and refined on the nine originals and one cover ("Fantasy" by Earth, Wind & Fire). While all the soloists are strong, Britt Quentin's high tenor (soprano?) voice, reminiscent of Michael Jackson, is a clear standout on "If We Try," which opens the album. Then there's Matthew Selby's "sub-harmonics" on "Without Your Love," a new vocal/lip buzz technique which brings in the low bass "guitar" sound - amazing! And while the bent is pop, the harmonies sometimes are luscious jazz, as on the close of "My Way" (which is yet another exceptional solo by Britt). All contemporary a cappella lovers should get this exquisite recording - very highly recommended! (42:56 1998)
