This 1997 release is yet another fine Christmas recording by one of the biggest names in choral music. About half a cappella, the program mixes familiar carols ("The First Nowell," "Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming," both arranged by Shaw and Alice Parker) with familiar choral works (Randall Thompson's gorgeous "Alleluia," Biebl's lush "Ave Maria") and some lesser known pieces (Lauridsen's shimmering "O magnum mysterium," Kopylov's "Heavenly Light", "Adeste Fideles"). The recording concludes with a lovely (harp accompanied) rendition of Britten's "Ceremony of Carols." Exquisite! (71:21 1997)
