The Robert Shaw Chorale produced the benchmark by which all other patriotic music is measured when they released this album in the early 60's. The re-release of the album in 1991 on CD gave people (like me) who had worn their copy down to nothing but scratches where the tracks used to be the opportunity to revisit the power and majesty of these songs. The renditions of these songs on this album are the quintessential versions; these performances are the ones that I have used to many years for comparison. Few, if any, other versions of the songs on this album are done with more power and feeling, as well as technical merit. This is a "must have" for anyone that ever has a desire to hear what "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", "Columbia, Gem of the Ocean" or "The Armed Forces Medley" should sound like.
